Stands on 50 meter high hill in the center of Aleppo, Syria, Aleppo Citadel is one of the oldest castles. It is considered to be one of the oldest and largest castles in the world with rich history.  The castle was built on a natural limestone rising some 100 feet above the level of the surrounding plain. Its high walls, imposing entry bridge, and great gateway remain stand as a warrior even after so long time.

Edinburgh Castle was twice captured by invading British and and twice reclaimed by the Scots. The Edinburgh castle was later fortified with a giant cannon named Mons Meg, which can still be viewed by tourists today. It was originally called New Hohenschwangau Castle, because being a grand recreation of Hohenschwangau Castle, where Ludwig II spent his childhood. Included in World Heritage Site in December of 1993, Himeji Castle is Japanese national treasure and breathtaking landmark located in the town of Himeji in the Hyogo Prefecture of Japan. It was built on a natural hilltop between 1581 and 1609 CE. Himeji castle property, situated on a hill summit in the central part of the Harima Plain, covers 107 hectares and comprises eighty-two buildings. The first fort built on the site were completed in the 1400s, and over the centuries got enlarged by the various rulers.

7. Buda Castle

Buda Castle is a royal historic palace in Budapest Hungary, built in the thirteenth century when the Hungary was invaded by the Mongol. 3. Mehrangarh Fort

With an altitude of 410 feet, Mehrangarh Fort is one of the biggest and magnificent forts in India. Built by Rao Jodha in the year 1459, fort is spread over an area of 5 km and is built on approx 125 m high hill in the outskirts of Jodhpur city. There are seven gates, made by different rulers which include Jayapol (meaning ‘victory gate’), built by Maharaja Man Singh to commemorate his victories over Jaipur and Bikaner armies.
