The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is 46 kilometers long. It passes through many tunnels, and over hundreds of bridges (In whch 30 of them are large ones). The railway is best for photography because of the surrounding rocky terrain, ravines, tea plantations, and thickly forested hills. 2. Avalanche Lake
Located 28 km away from Ooty, Avalanche lake is a must visit place for tourist on Ooty Tour. This lake, beautifully lying between the lush greenery of mountains and landscapes mesmerises every visitor. It was created due to a massive landslide . The entire region is covered by gorgeous blooming flowers such as magnolias, orchids and rhododendrons, which increase the natural beauty here.
3. Ooty Lake
One of the most important destination of Ooty tourism, Ooty lake is indeed a place to visit. It is an artificial lake that was first built for fishries. This lake is popular for boating. Here you can enjoy a refreshing ride on its serene waters. There is boating house located near the lake offering a wide array of boats for hiring. You can also try cycling by the side of lake which is worth experiencing. There are few shops located around the lake, selling various locally made items.
At a distance of 3 km from Ooty Bus Station & Railway Station ,It is a beautiful garden situated on the foothills of Dodabetta Peak in Ooty. It is maintain by Tamil Nadu Horticulture Department, It is one of the top places to visit in Ooty and also one of the best botanical gardens in India.
Botanical Garden spreads over an area of 22 hectares with more than 650 species of flowers and trees. The garden is divided into several sections, named as Lower Garden, New Garden, Italian Garden, the Conservatory and the Nursery. Here you will find thousand species of plants, shrubs, ferns, herbal, bonsai plants and trees. It is home to several rare species of trees such as the cork tree, the monkey puzzle tree, and the paper bark tree. The cork tree is probably one of its kinds in India.

5. Doddabetta Peak
It is located at an altitude of 2623 meters, and is the highest peak in the Nilgiris. At the junction of Western Ghat and Eastern Ghats, it is 10 km away from Ooty and covered by dense sholas. This peak is favourite for trekking. The view from the top of the peak is completely mesmerising, there is a telescope house at the peak with two telescopes , where you can see captivating view of the valley around. Rich flora and fauna here adds the overall charm in the valley of Doddabetta Peak.
6. Mudumalai National Park
It Connects Eastern Ghats and the Western Ghats, on the Ooty Mysore route, Mudumalai National Park is another most popular place to visit by Nature lovers on their tour to Ooty. This national park is home of many wild animals and rich fauna and flora. It has also been declared as a tiger reserve because it is home of approximately 50 tigers. You can also get accommodation as many guest houses are offered by the Forest Department at different location of the Mudumalai National park.
7. Pykara Falls
It Situated on the Ooty Mysore road, this is around 20 km away from Ooty. And it has been developed as a picnic spot, this place is ideal for relax while admiring the scenic beauty of the waterfall and greenery around the fall. Deer Park is located at a distance of 2 km from Ooty Lake, and it is easily accessible by road. It has rich fauna along with varieties of deer such as Sambhar and the Chithal, Deer park makes up for wildlife enthusiasts. Spread across an area of 22 acres, this park was established in 1986. 9. Ooty Rose Garden
Ooty Rose Garden is another popular place to visit in Ooty. Garden is situated at an altitude of 2200 m on the slopes of the Elk Hill of Ooty town. It is maintained by Government of Tamil Nadu. The garden is spread across 4 hectares of land and here you will findmore than 20 thousand variety of roses. A well maintained garden, it also winner of Garden of Excellence Award for South Asia from the World Federation of Rose Societies. 10. Emerald Lake
Located near the Emerald Village in the Nilgiri District, It lies in a place called as SIlent Valley. It is situated around 25 km from Ooty. 12. Glenmorgan, Ooty
It is a village at a distance of approx 25 km from Ooty where you can see tea estates including one of the oldest tea estate of this region. It has a small ropeway running from a power house in Singara to Glenmorgan. You can see a picturesque view of the Pykara power house , the Moyar valley, The Mudumalai Wild life Sanctuary and the distant places of Mysore.
